Five things to Consider When Shipping Cargo Overseas

  1. Determine Your Shipping Method
Work with your forwarder to determine whether Air or Ocean best fits the shipping requirements for both you and your client. Each mode can be paired with Domestic Air, Ground or Rail shipping to create the most economical and dependable routing.
  2. Choose a Packaging Type
Do you need to crate, or will boxes suffice? Will a moisture barrier be necessary? Is your shipment temperature sensitive? There are a number of factors to consider to achieve smart packaging.
  3. Labeling
The overseas buyer usually specifies which export marks should appear on the cargo for easy identification by receivers. Products can require many markings for shipment, and these should be discussed to ensure smooth transit.
  4. Insurance
Export shipments are usually insured against loss and damage in transit by cargo insurance. Arrangements for insurance may be made by either the buyer or the seller, in accordance with the terms of sale. Your freight forwarder can provide you with guidance and arrange coverage.
  5. Documentation
Commercial Invoice, Packing List and Pro Forma Invoice are just some of the documents that must be included. Contact HUIN Logistics for assistance in determining what documentation will be necessary for your export shipments.
